About Stride

Stride is a liquid staking protocol built on Cosmos, offering a solution for assets locked in PoS chains. Users deposit native tokens like ATOM or OSMO and receive stTokens (e.g., stATOM, stOSMO) that represent their staked position. These stTokens remain usable in DeFi applications such as trading, lending, and yield farming, while the underlying assets continue earning staking rewards. This removes the need to choose between staking yields and capital efficiency.

Stride's core strength lies in its dominant position within the Cosmos ecosystem, holding over 90% market share in liquid staking. It supports major chains including Cosmos Hub, Osmosis, Injective, and Celestia. The protocol uses Interchain Security, inheriting economic security from Cosmos Hub, and employs a delegated staking model that avoids revenue sharing with validators, resulting in higher net fees compared to similar protocols. Its "protocol-owned liquidity" approach also reduces incentive costs, strengthening its competitive moat.

The market pain point Stride addresses is the liquidity bottleneck in Cosmos chains. Most require a 21-day unbonding period, locking up user funds and limiting participation in DeFi. Liquid staking penetration in Cosmos remains low—around 2% for ATOM versus 41% on Ethereum—indicating significant room for growth. Stride unlocks this trapped value, enabling users to earn yields and stay active in the ecosystem simultaneously.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), Stride resolved its obligations with Cosmos following the latter's decision to abandon its EVM plans, settling debts and extending operational runway. The liquid staking business continues to operate normally, with revenue still used to buy back and burn STRD tokens. Stride is now exploring new revenue-generating product lines beyond Cosmos, with updates expected once these initiatives mature. The protocol also continues expanding support to new chains, broadening its total addressable market.

Stride co-founders include Riley Edmunds, Aidan Salzmann, and Vishal Talasani. Riley Edmunds holds a B.A. in Computer Science from UC Berkeley, with internships at Intuit and other tech firms, and previously worked on ML research at Berkeley. Aidan Salzmann also studied at UC Berkeley, worked as an investment associate at Bridgewater Associates, and co-founded Alinea before Stride. Vishal Talasani is a co-founder, though his detailed background is not publicly disclosed. Together, they built Stride as a liquid staking protocol for the Cosmos ecosystem.
