About Stader
Stader is a multi-chain liquid staking platform that lets users stake assets like ETH, BNB, and MATIC while receiving liquid tokens (e.g., ETHx, BNBx) in return. These tokens can be freely used in DeFi protocols, solving the liquidity lock-up problem of traditional staking.
Its core strengths include a low staking threshold—using DVT technology, Ethereum staking requires only 4 ETH, far lower than competitors like Rocket Pool. It also offers modular smart contracts, allowing third parties to build custom staking solutions. Node operators must stake the native SD token, which also grants governance rights.
The main market pain point is that conventional staking locks funds for extended periods, reducing capital efficiency. Stader addresses this by tokenizing staked assets, enabling users to earn staking rewards and DeFi yields simultaneously.
In the past six months (March to September 2026), Stader launched a new tokenomics model with xSD, where SD holders can stake to receive xSD, earning protocol revenue shares and governance power. ETHx expanded integrations with lending protocols like Aave and DEXs like Balancer, boosting its DeFi utility. However, the team token unlock began in January 2026, creating some selling pressure on SD. Overall, Stader continues to focus on lowering barriers and expanding multi-chain adoption, though its ecosystem growth remains modest compared to larger rivals.
Stader Labs is a multi-chain liquid staking platform that has evolved through several key milestones. It launched on multiple chains including Hedera, Polygon, BNB Chain, Fantom, NEAR, and Terra 2.0, establishing itself as a leading liquid staking provider. In 2022, it conducted a public sale on Coinlist and raised $16.5 million in funding. A significant long-term event was the approval of the proposal to burn 20% of SD tokens (30 million out of 150 million total supply), which was completed to address low liquidity and high FDV concerns, reducing supply to 120 million. Another major milestone was Coinbase adding SD to its listing roadmap and subsequently listing it, increasing accessibility and liquidity. These events mark Stader's strategic focus on tokenomics optimization and exchange integration, which are pivotal for its sustainable growth in the DeFi ecosystem.
In the past six months (2026-03-13 to 2026-09-13), Stader announced on June 13, 2026 the gradual shutdown of its Polygon liquid staking token MaticX, with the front-end removed on August 3, 2026. New deposits were halted and the token entered a claims-only state; users must redeem MATIC via the contract directly. This is a significant negative factor. No other substantive positive developments occurred.
