About Spearbit
Spearbit is a decentralized network of expert security researchers providing smart contract audits and security reviews for Web3 projects. Unlike traditional audit firms with full-time staff, Spearbit matches each project with independent, vetted specialists best suited to its specific protocol type and tech stack. Its core offering includes high-end reviews (with at least two lead researchers), protocol security assessments, and access to Cantina, a competitive audit platform. The main pain point it addresses is the mismatch between generic audit teams and complex, specialized protocols—especially Layer 1 chains, rollups, and bridging mechanisms. By leveraging a curated talent pool, Spearbit delivers deep expertise, flexible resourcing, and independent perspectives, helping teams identify vulnerabilities like MEV exposure, incorrect slashing logic, or cross-chain replay risks before mainnet deployment.
In the past six months (March to September 2026), Spearbit has been actively engaged across the ecosystem. Notable projects include Fira, a fixed-rate DeFi lending protocol that underwent audits by Sherlock, Spearbit (via Cantina), Hexens, and others between November 2025 and early 2026. Ammalgam, a next-gen DeFi protocol, received security reviews from 0xMacro, ChainSecurity, Spearbit, and Cantina ahead of its mainnet launch in March 2026. Additionally, a critical vulnerability in a proposed XRP Ledger feature was fixed before activation, with Spearbit's CEO commenting on the matter. These engagements highlight Spearbit's continued role in securing both emerging and established blockchain infrastructure.
Spearbit was founded in November 2021, with three of five co-founders from the Ethereum Foundation, aiming to build a decentralized security expert network. In August 2023, it raised $7 million in a round led by Framework Ventures, bringing total funding to $8.5 million with a valuation of approximately $48 million.
Subsequently, it launched Cantina, an open marketplace connecting audit demand with experts, and introduced Managed Service and Guilds products. Additionally, in collaboration with Arkis, it implemented a verifiable release process using signatures and transparency logs to ensure the verifiability of code and audit reports, advancing industry security standards.
The founding team of Spearbit consists of Harikrishnan Mulackal, Jake Lang, and Jake Lynch.
Harikrishnan Mulackal: Co-founder & CEO. Holds an M.S. in Mathematics from TU Berlin, worked as a graduate student assistant at Zuse Institute Berlin, then joined the Ethereum team to work on Solidity compiler development and language design. Co-founded Spearbit in 2021.
Jake Lang: Co-founder & CTO. Former Ethereum core developer (2017-2020), also served as compiler engineer at Ethereum Classic Labs and software engineer at Coder. Co-founded Spearbit and Cantina in 2021.
Jake Lynch: Co-founder. Former Chief Strategy Officer at Regime Capital Management and Investment Partner at L1D AG, with experience as an ICO analyst. Co-founded Spearbit in 2021.
