About MoonPay
MoonPay is a crypto payment infrastructure platform that lets users buy and sell digital assets using familiar payment methods like credit cards, Apple Pay, PayPal, and bank transfers. It serves over 30 million customers across 180 countries and powers more than 500 wallets, exchanges, and Web3 apps through a single integration.
Its core value lies in making crypto purchases as easy as online shopping. By supporting major card networks and alternative payment methods, MoonPay lowers the barrier for newcomers. For businesses, it offers a full suite including on/off ramps, trading, crypto payment acceptance, and stablecoin solutions, all through one API.
Market pain points MoonPay addresses include fragmented payment infrastructure, high friction in converting fiat to crypto, and complex compliance requirements. The platform simplifies these by handling KYC, payment processing, and regulatory coverage across key markets.
In the past six months, MoonPay launched MoonPay Agents, a non-custodial financial layer enabling AI agents to hold funds and execute transactions autonomously. It also introduced MoonPay Enterprise, a unified stablecoin infrastructure suite built on its acquisition of Iron, allowing businesses to issue virtual accounts, manage multi-currency treasuries, and move funds across borders. Additionally, MoonPay integrated Discover Network as a payment option for US customers, making it the third major card network available on the platform.
No significant negative events were reported in the last two years.
Since its founding in 2019, MoonPay has evolved from a fiat-to-crypto payment gateway into a comprehensive financial infrastructure spanning payments, trading, custody, and accounting.
Key milestones include: launching MoonPay Trade to enter the tokenized asset and DeFi market, marking the expansion from payments to trading; acquiring Dawn Labs and launching the AI trading assistant Dawn CLI, enabling natural-language strategy description and autonomous trade execution; and launching MoonAgents Card, a stablecoin debit card for AI agents on the Mastercard network, pioneering a new paradigm for machine-initiated payments.
The 2026 acquisition spree was particularly critical: acquiring Glide to solve cross-chain payment challenges, acquiring Entendre to fill the stablecoin accounting layer, and acquiring Sodot (an Israeli key management firm) to strengthen institutional custody capabilities. These acquisitions enabled MoonPay to complete three deals in half a month, accelerating its institutional business expansion and IPO progress.
In AI integration, MoonPay launched a dedicated app within ChatGPT, allowing users to purchase cryptocurrency directly in conversations; subsequently launching PayBox, supporting direct payments through ChatGPT and Claude. These initiatives embed crypto payments into mainstream AI interaction interfaces.
From a long-term perspective, MoonPay is transforming from a payment infrastructure into an AI-era financial operating system, covering the entire chain of fund flows, asset trading, AI agent payments, and financial automation.
