About Korbit

Korbit, launched in 2013 as South Korea's first crypto exchange, faced a major regulatory setback in 2025 when the FIU fined it $1.88 million for AML violations, marking a turning point in compliance enforcement. In early 2026, Mirae Asset Group acquired a 92.06% stake for 133.4 billion won, bringing the exchange under a major financial conglomerate's umbrella. This acquisition, following earlier talks with Bybit, signaled a strategic shift toward institutional ownership and long-term stability for the embattled platform.

Updated: Aug 28, 2026

In the past six months, Korbit's key milestone was Mirae Asset Consulting completing a ~97.15% controlling acquisition (approx. $102M), followed by a rebranding to Digital X on July 24, 2026, officially described as the core pillar of “Mirae Asset 3.0” . The exchange also launched Korbit CLI, integrating AI agents such as ChatGPT Codex and Claude Code, enabling natural-language orders, balance queries, deposits/withdrawals, and a simulation environment for safe validation . Future focus: build Digital X into an intelligent investment platform by converging RWA tokenization, STOs, stablecoins with traditional/digital assets; uphold compliance as an absolute standard in AML/KYC; and act as a regulatory role model as Korea's digital asset regime matures . Longer-term goals include integrating securities and digital asset trading to build an institutional-grade value chain .
