About Improbable
Improbable is a British metaverse technology company headquartered in London. Its core business focuses on building infrastructure for large-scale virtual worlds, including the SpatialOS platform for massive multiplayer simulations and the MSquared network of interoperable metaverses. The company also develops Morpheus technology for high-density social VR experiences and Somnia, a blockchain designed for metaverse applications.
The main market pain point Improbable addresses is the technical difficulty of hosting thousands of simultaneous users in a single, persistent virtual space. Traditional game engines and server architectures struggle with this scale, leading to lag, limited player counts, and fragmented virtual worlds. Improbable's technology enables smooth, large-scale interactions and cross-world asset portability.
In the past six months (February to August 2026), Improbable has continued advancing its Somnia blockchain project, which aims to process over 400,000 transactions per second for metaverse use cases. The company also launched Chunked, an experimental browser-based MMO that runs game logic and storage entirely on-chain, demonstrating the practical application of their blockchain infrastructure.
Notably, in 2023 Improbable sold its defence division to NOIA Capital, which included contracts with the UK Ministry of Defence. This divestment marked a strategic shift away from government work toward purely commercial metaverse and blockchain ventures.
