About Horizen
Horizen, originally launched as ZenCash in 2017, rebranded in 2018 and developed the Zendoo sidechain framework in 2020, followed by the EVM-compatible EON in 2023. In 2025, the project migrated to Base as a Layer 3 network, converting ZEN to an ERC-20 token while maintaining a fixed 21 million supply. Major exchanges like Binance and OKX supported the token swap, and the migration unlocked liquidity and DeFi integrations. These milestones mark a strategic pivot from a standalone blockchain to a privacy-focused appchain within a larger ecosystem.
Over the past six months (2026-03-15 to 2026-09-15), key bullish factors for ZEN include: the DAO-approved staking program (ZenIP 42408) with an initial 50,000 ZEN bootstrap and up to 50% of DAO LP earnings, plus a 4-year vision totaling 215,000 ZEN; staking went live with rewards accruing from DAO, zkVerify emissions, and L3 sequencer fees; the Layer 3 appchain launch on Base with ERC-20 migration completed, PoW mining ended (supply overhang removed), and a 21M hard cap. Bearish factors: the privacy narrative was abandoned (shielded pool permanently removed), early-stage L3 with near-zero TVL, weak value capture (buy-and-burn details TBD), and heavy reliance on Base/Coinbase.
