About ETHGlobal
ETHGlobal is an event organizer for the Ethereum/Web3 developer community. Its core business is running global hackathons and summits, where developers try cutting-edge protocols through hands-on projects and connect with ecosystem partners. Its competitiveness lies in a deeply accumulated community network and scaled operations: according to its official stats , it has hosted 95+ events, generated 14,000+ projects, distributed $13.5M+ in grants, and onboarded 150k+ members.
The main pain points it addresses: Web3 developers lack practical scenarios to move from theory to code, have limited channels to reach protocol teams or grant programs, and newcomers often struggle to find aligned teammates. Past events are therefore built around "learning by building" and sponsor-matching.
In the past half-year (March to September 2026), ETHGlobal ran Cannes 2026 (April) and Lisbon 2026, announcing 10 finalists for each ; . Finalist projects covered AI agent security, payment tracking, stablecoins, accountability layers, privacy tools, and more. It also promoted Tokyo 2026 (Sep 25–27) and Mumbai 2026 (Nov), maintaining a high-frequency, offline, build-first rhythm as a key entry point into the Ethereum developer ecosystem.
ETHGlobal originated in Waterloo, Canada in 2017 as one of the earliest global hackathon organizers in the Ethereum ecosystem, laying the foundation for a developer community. In 2023, it reshaped its global calendar, adding Lisbon, returning to Waterloo, and introducing Pragma summits and Hacker Cafés, forming a hybrid model of hackathons, summits, and resident communities. In 2025, the Prague edition landed in the Czech Republic for the first time, with 825 attendees and 217 projects. AI×Crypto, onchain identity, and real-world DeFi emerged as highlights, showcasing the breadth and innovation direction of Ethereum developer culture. Later that year, Cannes debuted in France with even larger scale, focusing on privacy, social impact, and cross-chain interoperability—examples include stealth POAPs and BTC-ETH atomic swaps. ETHGlobal's long-term significance lies in continuously nurturing developers, bridging crypto and real-world needs, and serving as a proving ground for emerging trends such as AI×Crypto and privacy.
In the past six months, ETHGlobal held a major hackathon in Singapore: 1,200 developers from 45 countries, 180 projects, and $500K in prizes; winning projects focused on AI-agent key management and ZK medical privacy . Cannes 2026 finalists concentrated on AI-agent prompt-injection defense, privacy infrastructure, and prediction markets .
The biggest change was the official launch of the "Continuity Track": starting with New York, builders can bring existing code instead of starting from an empty repo — with three paths: build from scratch, extend an open-source repo, or ship a new feature of a private product as open source. ETHGlobal said this marks hackathons shifting from teaching tools to part of a product's lifecycle; future focus is iterating on existing foundations, increasing open-source contributions, driving projects toward PMF, and making hackathons a regular part of crypto product roadmaps ; . Applications closed June 8, and New York was the first event with this track.
ETHGlobal was co-founded in 2017 by Kartik Talwar and Liam Horne. Kartik Talwar is a current co-founder and Partner at A.Capital Ventures; he was previously a Partner at SV Angel and an Infrastructure Software Developer at Salesforce, and studied at the University of Waterloo. Liam Horne is a current co-founder and now works on Product at Tempo; he previously served as CEO and Head of Engineering at OP Labs, led the OP Stack and Superchain strategy, co-founded L4, and was a Thiel Fellow. Together they have driven ETHGlobal to host 95+ hackathons, incubate 14,000+ projects, distribute $13.5M+ in grants, and onboard 150k+ community members. The current core executive team consists of the two co-founders.
