About eToro
eToro, founded in 2007 in Tel Aviv, has evolved from a forex broker into a leading social trading and multi-asset investment platform. Its long-term strategic milestones include:
CEO Yoni Assia personally accumulated 4,000 BTC between 2011 and 2012 at an average price of about $5, later selling at $50 million, reflecting the company's early conviction in crypto assets.
In 2013, eToro expanded into stock and CFD trading, and in 2014 introduced Bitcoin trading, becoming one of the first regulated platforms to offer crypto to retail investors.
A major regulatory milestone came in 2023 when eToro obtained a BitLicense from the New York State Department of Financial Services, enabling it to offer cryptocurrency trading in New York and across 48 U.S. states.
In 2025, eToro completed its IPO on Nasdaq, marking its transition into a publicly listed company. The same year, it launched cryptocurrency trading in New York, fulfilling its regulatory commitments.
In Q1 2026, eToro acquired Zengo, a self-custody crypto wallet provider, for $70 million, advancing its strategy of bridging traditional finance with on-chain infrastructure.
The company has also been exploring a tokenization strategy and evaluating the possibility of launching its own blockchain or sidechain, signaling its ambition to deepen its footprint in the digital asset ecosystem.
