About Chia
Chia is a blockchain network based on "Proof of Space and Time". Users contribute idle hard drive space to "farm" and earn rewards, rather than consuming large amounts of electricity like Bitcoin. It supports smart contracts using its own Chialisp language, enabling issuance of tokens, NFTs, etc.
Its core competitiveness lies in being eco-friendly and decentralized: ordinary computer hard drives can participate, lowering the barrier; the official pool protocol allows individual farmers to confirm blocks themselves, avoiding pool centralization. This addresses the pain points of high energy consumption and hash rate concentration in traditional PoW mining.
In the past half year (March to July 2026), according to XCH.today, the community submitted 15 new CHIP improvement proposals covering network technical optimizations. Additionally, the Chia network has over 100,000 full nodes, indicating an active ecosystem.
Positive:
- Multiple CHIPs progressed: Action Layer + Reward Distributor, token tree batch payments, Fee CATs, and Titled CAT standard, expanding ecosystem and revenue models.
- CNI expects AC/DC trust management fees to generate income and seeks to reopen equity investment; PoSpace 2.0 lowers farming barriers.
- Permuto, Gaming, and other applications may drive XCH demand.
Negative:
- DeFi setbacks in Aug 2026: warp.green bridge drained ~$93k; TibetSwap rescued all liquidity due to critical bug; Circuit treasury drained.
- Dust storm attacked the network.
- XCH price stayed below $2; netspace fell below 4 EiB; farming income down nearly 50% YoY.
Bram Cohen: Founder of Chia, inventor of the BitTorrent protocol. He founded BitTorrent Inc. in 2001 and left in 2017 to create Chia Network, aiming to build a more eco-friendly cryptocurrency.
Gene Hoffman: CEO of Chia. He previously founded Vindicia and served as its CEO, later acquired by Amdocs. With extensive experience in enterprise software, payments, and cryptocurrency, he joined Chia in 2019.
