About bitFlyer
bitFlyer, a major Japanese cryptocurrency exchange, has achieved several milestones with long-term significance. In 2024, it completed the acquisition of FTX Japan, renaming it Custodiem, which holds both a crypto exchange license and a Type 1 financial instruments business license, positioning the group for institutional custody and potential spot ETF services. In 2025, its Luxembourg subsidiary bitFlyer Europe obtained a CASP license under the EU's MiCA framework, becoming the first Japan-origin exchange to do so, enabling passporting across all 27 EU member states. These steps, alongside its decade-long dominance in domestic BTC trading volume and ongoing IPO preparations, mark strategic expansions into regulated institutional markets and cross-border operations.
In the past six months (Mar-Sep 2026), bitFlyer's key progress: On June 26, its Luxembourg subsidiary bitFlyer EUROPE obtained a CASP license under the EU MiCA framework, enabling cross-border services in all 27 EU member states—a first among Japanese exchanges . On July 13, it announced "bitFlyer Prime" for institutions and corporates, planned for 2027, combining OTC execution with Custodiem custody, leveraging 10 consecutive years of No.1 domestic BTC volume and zero hack-outflow record . On Sep 4, it reported No.1 domestic BTC trading volume for H1 2026 . Regulatory: the amended Financial Instruments and Exchange Act passed on July 15; bitFlyer sees a "big bang" industry consolidation, with SBI's bitbank subsidiary deal leaving bitFlyer as the only major independent . Future focus: Prime for institutional custody/OTC; deepening spot/derivatives liquidity to support ETFs; advancing stablecoin and on-chain finance design; global compliance including Nevada license; expanding Custodiem cross-industry custody .

He also leads bitFlyer's global expansion, including subsidiaries in the US and Europe.
Ryota Sasaki (Director & CFO): A lawyer with experience at Anderson Mori & Fumotsu (now Anderson Mori & Tomotsune) and JP Morgan Securities, he later joined SMBC Nikko Securities as Managing Director of M&A advisory.
