About Elastos
Elastos is a public blockchain whose mainnet launched in 2017. The main chain handles consensus and ELA staking, sidechains such as ESC and EID carry EVM contracts and identity workloads, and the stack includes DID, Hive storage and the Carrier peer-to-peer network. Its distinguishing feature is where security comes from: blocks are produced through AuxPoW merged mining with Bitcoin pools, so roughly 60% of Bitcoin's hashrate also secures ELA, while finality is confirmed by BPoS staking and arbiter nodes. BeL2 uses zero-knowledge proofs and a decentralised relay network to build verifiable state outside the Bitcoin main chain, letting BTC enter lending and settlement contracts without leaving Bitcoin or passing through a custodian.
On 20 July 2026 a value-overflow flaw in monetary validation halted the main chain, with block production stopping near block 2.26 million; developers rewound to the last unaffected block and restarted the network. ESC and EID resumed on 1 September after a full-stack audit covering the sidechains, the arbiter and the oracles, and cross-chain transfers reopened with them. On 30 September the project released Elastos Runtime v0.7.1, written in Rust, as the execution base for ElastOS v2.
Burn: A cross-chain exploit on July 13 minted about 6.03 million unbacked ELA on ESC. After the v0.2.8 upgrade, 4.93 million of those tokens were burned at block 37,634,427 — roughly 17.5% of the 28.22 million maximum supply.
Setback: ESC halted at block 37,617,146 on July 13 for about 24 hours and exchange deposits were suspended. ELA fell to an all-time low of $0.226 on July 29.
Elastos released ElastOS v1.2 on May 1, 2026, bringing the dApp store and dDRM marketplace live alongside Runtime 0.20, followed by PC2 v1.3.0 and Runtime v0.3.0 in late May and PC2 v1.4.0 with Runtime v0.5 in July. June brought Elastos Node for Ubuntu v1.1 and Runtime v0.4.0, extending node and runtime capabilities to macOS and Linux. Between July 13 and July 20 a cross-chain reserve exploit on ESC and a value-overflow exploit on the main chain forced a halt; the team patched both, published a mainnet postmortem on August 1, and restored both sidechains and cross-chain transfers on September 1 after a full-stack audit. Elacity joined NVIDIA Inception in July, and spending mandates for AI agents were added.
Elastos's Future strategy and roadmap: The roadmap splits ElastOS into the blockchain, Runtime, Personal Cloud Compute (PC2) and Carrier layers. Planned milestones include completing Runtime marketplace buy and trade flows, moving dDRM to threshold custody with ML-DSA-65 post-quantum attestation, and testing an opt-in privacy layer for the main chain with Beam's extension-block approach.
