About Trezor

Trezor is a Czech-based hardware wallet brand that provides cold storage solutions for cryptocurrencies. Its core business revolves around physical devices that keep private keys offline, with supporting software (Trezor Suite) for transaction management and portfolio tracking. The main value proposition is self-custody: users retain full control of their assets, eliminating risks associated with centralized exchanges. Trezor addresses the market pain point of private key theft, phishing attacks, and accidental loss by storing keys in tamper-resistant hardware and requiring physical confirmation for transactions. Its open-source design allows independent security audits, a key differentiator in the industry.

In the past six months (Feb–Aug 2026), Trezor disclosed a data breach at its third-party logistics partner ShipMonk, affecting approximately 13,689 customers (names, emails, phone numbers, shipping addresses). The company emphasized that devices and funds were not compromised, but warned of potential phishing risks. Following the Coldcard chip vulnerability research, Trezor reviewed its own entropy generation and added additional validation checks. It also reported increased sales, particularly for Bitcoin-only products, as users sought alternatives after the Coldcard incident. Trezor plans third-party penetration testing of core firmware and public release of security audit reports.

Trezor, founded in 2013, pioneered the hardware wallet category with its first device, establishing a model for cold storage of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. In 2020, the company faced a phishing attack via its contact form, highlighting the persistent threat of social engineering against crypto users. A more significant incident occurred in January 2024, when a third-party support vendor exposed contact details of approximately 66,000 users, marking an early breach in the supply chain. In August 2026, Trezor disclosed a data breach at its shipping partner ShipMonk, affecting around 13,700 customers across seven countries, including names, phone numbers, and addresses. This incident underscored the risks inherent in physical delivery logistics. In July 2026, Trezor executives publicly rebutted on-chain investigator ZachXBT's criticism of hardware wallets as "completely garbage," defending the role of self-custody devices in an ongoing industry debate. These events collectively illustrate Trezor's evolution as a security-focused pioneer, navigating both technological innovation and the growing complexity of third-party risks.

Major Trezor developments in the past six months:

Clear Signing became the flagship security feature of 2026. Based on ERC-7730, it decodes complex smart contracts into human-readable details on the device screen, ending blind signing. It supports Ethereum and EVM networks, works automatically with Trezor Suite, WalletConnect and Trezor Connect, initially covering 1inch, Aave, Lido, Tether, LiFi, Hyperliquid and others. The stack is fully open-source, available on Safe 3/5/7 and Model T.

Trezor Suite now offers built-in stablecoin yield (Earn), powered by Morpho. Users can deposit USDC/USDT on Ethereum to earn up to ~4% APY with no lockups. Every action is clear-signed on-device, with a 10% performance fee.

Suite Sync launched for secure cross-device syncing of labels and settings, with BIP329 label sync and optional custom relay.

Future focus: expanding Clear Signing to more protocols and networks, and adding more assets and chains for stablecoin yield based on demand and security reviews.
