About Tempo

Tempo's development journey includes several milestones with long-term significance. In early 2026, Farcaster founder Dan Romero joined the project, strengthening its industry influence. The mainnet browser went live in February, laying the foundation for network transparency. In March, Tempo officially launched its mainnet, introducing the Machine Payment Protocol (MPP) co-developed with Stripe, enabling autonomous payments for AI agents and software. Shortly after, USDT0 deployed on Tempo, expanding cross-chain stablecoin interoperability across 23+ chains. In April, Visa and Standard Chartered's Zodia Custody became validators, marking traditional payment giants' participation in network infrastructure. Tempo also proposed native multi-signature accounts at the protocol layer, enhancing security and governance capabilities. The privacy solution Zones was introduced, supporting permissioned parallel chains for institutional compliance needs. These milestones demonstrate Tempo's evolution from concept to a payments-focused blockchain with institutional backing, machine payment standards, and privacy infrastructure.

Tempo, a payments-first Layer 1 incubated by Stripe and Paradigm, has made significant strides since its mainnet launch on March 18, 2026. Key developments include the T7 network upgrade (July 9) introducing capped dynamic base fees and storage credits, reducing typical transfer costs by up to 33x during off-peak periods. Tempo expanded onchain yield offerings by integrating BlackRock's BUIDL fund, enabling stablecoin holders to access institutional-grade treasury yields. Major enterprise adoption followed: Coupang and Woori Bank completed Korea's first end-to-end KRW stablecoin payment, while DoorDash, Stripe, Coastal, and ARQ moved payment operations onto Tempo's stablecoin infrastructure. The network's native stablecoin pathUSD (issued by Bridge) is live on mainnet, with testnet token explicitly distinguished as non-production. Future roadmap focuses on optimizing dynamic fee mechanisms, expanding storage credit applications across shared contracts (DEX orders, payment channels), deepening BUIDL-based yield products, and scaling real-world payment integrations across enterprise and machine-payable scenarios.
