About Staked

Staked is a non-custodial staking platform that allows cryptocurrency holders to earn rewards from proof-of-stake (PoS) networks and DeFi protocols without giving up control of their assets. Users retain their private keys while Staked runs the technical infrastructure needed to validate transactions and accumulate staking yields.

The core value proposition is security and reliability. Traditional staking services often require users to deposit funds with a third party, exposing them to counterparty risk. Staked eliminates this by keeping assets in user-controlled wallets while managing validator nodes behind the scenes. This approach addresses a key market pain point: the fear of losing funds due to exchange hacks or mismanagement.

In recent developments, Staked has been involved in the growing ecosystem of staked Ethereum ETFs. For example, BlackRock's iShares Staked Ethereum Trust (ETHB) uses staking infrastructure, and Galaxy Digital selected Staked as a validator for its staked Ethereum ETF. These partnerships indicate Staked's role in bridging traditional finance with on-chain staking.

However, the platform faced a significant incident in February 2022 when 75 of its validator nodes were slashed due to a technical issue. Staked responded by fully compensating affected clients for both lost ETH and missed rewards, demonstrating accountability. While this event raised concerns about operational risks, the company's swift remediation helped maintain trust among institutional users.

Staked, a non-custodial staking platform, began its journey with a $4.5 million seed round in January 2019, led by Pantera Capital with participation from Coinbase Ventures and Digital Currency Group, establishing its foundation in institutional staking.

A pivotal milestone came in December 2021 when Kraken acquired Staked, marking one of the largest acquisitions in the crypto industry at the time and significantly expanding Kraken's staking infrastructure.

In September 2022, Staked navigated the Ethereum Merge by transitioning to a commission-based model, charging 10% on rewards and fees, demonstrating its technical adaptability and long-term commitment to non-custodial staking through major network upgrades.

The most important development in the past six months is Staked's formal integration into Kraken Staking: staked.us now redirects to staking.kraken.com, existing Staked accounts work in the new dashboard, and Ethereum validator/staking reporting functions have moved to Kraken's platform; the service has not been shut down. The official blog has not published an independent roadmap or new product focus, and future priorities are now carried forward by Kraken Staking, centered on integrated staking/validator services. Apart from this, no other reliable significant progress was found.
