About ResearchHub

ResearchHub is an open science platform that accelerates research through community-driven peer review and direct crowdfunding of preregistered studies. Its core business includes: 1) a daily personalized feed of cutting-edge papers where qualified reviewers earn ResearchCoin (RSC) for public peer review; 2) a funding mechanism where researchers submit 2-4 page preregistrations (background, hypothesis, methods, statistical plan, budget) for community crowdfunding via RSC; 3) an Endowment system that lets RSC holders earn daily Funding Credits (tracking RSC price) without spending principal, which can only be used to fund research. The platform's competitive edge lies in its tokenized incentive loop: reviewers get paid ($150/RSC per review, more than traditional journals), funders get perpetual funding vehicles with revocable principal, and researchers get faster, transparent funding compared to traditional grants. It addresses two major pain points: the reproducibility crisis (less than half of studies are reported, fewer still replicated) and the inefficiency of legacy grantmaking (slow, opaque, closed peer review). In the past six months (2026-03-12 to 2026-09-12): the Endowment TVL climbed to nearly $3M in RSC since its April launch; Q2 2026 saw 1,163 peer reviews completed on the platform; the team continued hiring peer reviewers. No significant negative events were identified in the period. Note: this refers to the platform operated by Hub Technologies (researchhub.com), not other projects sharing the ResearchHub name.

In 2019, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong published a post outlining five major challenges in science, and soon after co-founded ResearchHub with Patrick Joyce, aiming to make research as collaborative and transparent as open-source software. ResearchCoin (RSC) and a DAO were later launched, allowing users to earn tokens for publishing, reviewing, and discussing papers, while token holders gained governance rights—bringing crypto incentives into academic communication. In 2022, a Q&A bounty feature was introduced, creating a market mechanism for research collaboration. In 2023, ResearchHub raised $5 million in seed funding to advance its platform. By its fifth anniversary in 2024, the platform had built an incentive system centered on pre-registration, open data, and citation rewards, while also accelerating peer review. In 2025, a new funding model was unveiled, enabling direct RSC-based support for pre-registered research, making scientific funding faster and more transparent. These milestones together reflect ResearchHub's evolution from a token-incentive experiment into a more comprehensive open-science infrastructure.

Updated: Sep 5, 2026

Positive:

  1. The ResearchHub Endowment launched in April; TVL reached nearly $3M by July. Holding RSC earns daily Funding Credits, with bonus multipliers for long-term holding.

  2. Content contribution incentives were updated, increasing weights for high-quality literature reviews and expert evaluations, curbing fake activities.

  3. DeSci sector attention rose, boosting RSC trading activity.

Negative:

  1. Circulating/FDV ratio is only 21.52%, implying future unlock pressure; price fell from ATH of $1.60 to $0.07132 (April).
