About Prysmatic Labs
Prysmatic Labs develops Prysm, a Go-based Ethereum proof-of-stake consensus client. Its core business is providing an easy-to-deploy and manage client for running validators, used by both individual stakers and major staking services like Lido and Coinbase.
The main competitive edge is Prysm's widespread adoption and feature richness, including a slasher, checkpoint sync, and MEV integration. However, this popularity also raises centralization risks, as a severe bug could impact the whole network.
The market pain point is client diversity and stability in Ethereum's consensus layer. Prysm addresses this with user-friendly tooling and continuous improvements, such as the v7.1.5 release introducing Gloas (EIP-8045) support, performance optimizations, and API enhancements.
In the past six months (March to September 2026), Prysm released v7.1.5 in June, focusing on Gloas fork preparation, new Beacon API topics/endpoints, streaming validator lists, and fixing several concurrency issues. Notably, in December 2025, Prysm v7.0.0 had a bug causing validators to fail voting, dropping participation below 75% and nearly losing finality; this was fixed in later versions.
Prysmatic Labs, core team behind Ethereum's Merge, shipped major releases in the past six months. v7.1.3 (Mar 18) laid groundwork for the Gloas (ePBS) fork, revamped logging, and included a go-ethereum v1.16.8 security fix. v7.1.5 (Jun 16) was dominated by Gloas development, introducing PTC duties, execution payload bid processing, and a new proposer_preferences endpoint. It also cut validator memory by ~300-450MB via state compaction, streamed validator lists, and fixed several data races. Patch releases v7.1.8 (Jul 1) and v7.1.9 (Aug 5) improved early attestation handling, fixed a libp2p propagation bug, added JSON fallback for builder APIs, and enhanced SSZ-QL proof support. Official roadmap centers on completing the Gloas (ePBS) fork—including builder registry, payload attestation, and proposer slashing—alongside PeerDAS data column optimizations, hdiff state storage, and continued performance hardening. The team also corrected client graffiti to use the proper 'PM' code.
Raul Jordan (Co-founder): Co-founder and former co-lead of Prysmatic Labs. B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science from Harvard (2017); Thiel Fellow. Led development of Prysm, Ethereum's consensus client critical to The Merge. After Prysmatic Labs was acquired by Offchain Labs in 2022, he is now Staff Software Engineer at Offchain Labs, continuing Ethereum core development.
Preston Van Loon (Co-founder): Co-founder and Ethereum protocol developer at Prysmatic Labs. Previously a Software Engineer at Google (Display & Video 360). Co-created Prysmatic Labs with Raul and led Prysm client engineering. Following the acquisition, he serves as Ethereum Core Developer at Offchain Labs, focused on mission-critical L1/L2 software.
