About HKVAX
HKVAX was founded in 2019 by Hong Kong entrepreneurs with the mission of bridging traditional and digital finance.
In August 2023, HKVAX received approval-in-principle from the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) for Type 1 (dealing in securities) and Type 7 (providing automated trading services) regulated activities, becoming the third licensed virtual asset trading platform in Hong Kong.
Upon obtaining final approval, the company plans to offer three core products: OTC brokerage services, an institutional-grade trading platform, and a 100% insured custody solution. HKVAX also aims to establish industry benchmarks for new product categories such as Security Token Offerings (STO) and asset-backed tokens, positioning itself within the Web3 investment landscape.
HKVAX (Hong Kong Virtual Asset Exchange) advanced its regulated custody infrastructure during the review period. In May 2026, the platform deployed Thales Luna Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) to strengthen private key management, achieving FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation and passing independent security audits. This move aligns with the SFC's evolving virtual asset framework, positioning HKVAX for upcoming tokenized asset trading rules. Looking ahead, HKVAX is preparing for post-quantum cryptography (PQC) readiness and addressing AI-driven cyber threats, while expanding its STO/RWA tokenization services under Hong Kong's regulatory regime. The exchange continues to focus on institutional-grade custody, compliance, and multi-tier wallet architecture to support regulated digital asset growth.
