About Fabric Foundation

Fabric Foundation is a non-profit building the coordination layer for the open robot economy. Its core business is creating an open network where robots have on-chain identities, wallets, and programmable payment systems, enabling them to autonomously pay for services like charging and maintenance. The foundation also develops standards for machine-to-machine collaboration and decentralized task allocation.

The main pain point it addresses is the fragmentation of current robot deployments. Robots today operate in isolated systems, lacking a unified way to coordinate, pay, or verify work. Fabric aims to solve this by providing a shared infrastructure that allows any robot, from any manufacturer, to participate in a global, transparent labor market.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), Fabric has focused on real-world pilots. Notably, it partnered with Circle to launch a USDC-based autonomous charging network in Silicon Valley, where robots pay for electricity without human intervention. It also released BrainPack, a plug-and-play computing module that gives existing robots (like Unitree's dog robots) autonomous navigation, edge inference, and self-charging capabilities. Early developer units have been delivered, and a robot app store has been launched with initial applications for quadruped and humanoid robots.

Challenges remain. The robotics industry is capital-intensive and slow to scale, and cross-manufacturer standards are still evolving. Whether the developer ecosystem can sustain momentum and whether the machine economy truly closes its loop are open questions that require time to validate.

The Fabric Foundation was established as an independent non-profit focused on building the governance and coordination infrastructure needed for an open robot economy.

Released OM1, an open-source AI operating system, and the FABRIC decentralized protocol, providing identity, communication, and task coordination across robots from different manufacturers.

Launched the $ROBO token as the core utility and governance asset, with a Proof of Robotic Work mechanism rewarding verified real-world contributions rather than passive holding.

Integrated Circle's USDC payment rails and demonstrated robots autonomously paying charging stations, validating a closed-loop payment system for machines as economic actors.

Launched a robot app store based on OM1, attracting over 1,000 developers and partners including UBTech and Agibot, building a scalable robot skills ecosystem.
