About Coincover

Coincover is a London-based crypto security company focused on preventing digital asset loss through key recovery and protection solutions.

Its core business includes wallet recovery for exchanges, financial institutions, DeFi protocols, and retail wallet providers. The technology works by sharding private keys into fragments stored across independent parties, so no single provider holds a complete key. When a user loses access, identity verification triggers the release of the required fragments to restore the wallet, typically within 30 minutes.

Key strengths include: multi-layered security (AES-256 encryption, segregated storage, multi-region redundancy), biometric and identity-verified access controls, regulatory alignment with frameworks like UK FCA, EU MiCA, and US SEC Reg SCI, and a choice between hot storage (AWS Nitro enclave) and cold storage (FIPS 140-2 Level 3 hardware). Monthly recovery testing is included at no extra cost.

The market pain point is clear: a 2026 study by Oobit found 35% of US crypto holders had lost wallet access, and 31% of those could not recover their assets. Coincover's own survey showed only 51% of crypto investors' next of kin could locate access information without help. Lost keys mean irreversible loss of assets, and for platforms, this translates directly into customer churn and lost lifetime revenue.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), Coincover announced that Altify, a South African digital asset platform, extended its key backup and recovery products to both retail and institutional investors. The company also published a crypto inheritance report highlighting the succession problem, and referenced the Oobit study to quantify the scale of wallet access loss. No major negative developments were reported during this period.

Updated: Sep 12, 2026

Over the past six months (2026-03-07 to 2026-09-07), Coincover has focused on expanding institutional-grade recovery infrastructure. Key developments include strategic partnerships with Crossmint (June 2026) and Taurus (May 2026), integrating its Recover product into smart wallet and on-premise custody platforms for neobanks, fintechs, and financial institutions. The company reports protecting 22 million+ wallets with zero failed recoveries, serving 600+ institutional clients.

Looking ahead, Coincover's stated priorities center on: (1) scaling its go-to-market strategy to expand into new markets and increase institutional adoption; (2) supporting stablecoin evolution into real-world payment scenarios; (3) underpinning crypto adoption by Web2 users through embedded recovery solutions; (4) positioning wallet key backup as a compliance and operational resilience standard for financial institutions under frameworks like MiCA and DORA.
