About Chainalysis

Chainalysis is a blockchain data platform that provides on-chain tracing, risk management, and compliance tools for exchanges, banks, and law enforcement agencies. Its core product is the Reactor investigation software. The key pain point it addresses is that blockchain transactions are hard to trace and address clustering standards are inconsistent, leaving investigations and compliance without reliable evidence. Its competitiveness lies in data and methodologies that have been academically validated and meet the U.S. federal Daubert evidence standard. It is also used by nine of the top ten crypto exchanges and more than 50 regulators, and BNY Mellon has adopted it as the compliance foundation for its digital asset platform.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), Chainalysis made several moves. In March, it launched "natural language" AI agents that allow non-technical users to build custom investigation workflows, lowering the barrier to blockchain intelligence. In June, it published a blockchain tracing ontology that breaks "clustering" into wallet segments and confidence tiers, aiming to establish an industry standard. It also filed a lawsuit against ICE at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, alleging that ICE illegally awarded a $94.6 million blockchain analysis contract exclusively to rival TRM Labs and that the procurement process was biased. In addition, its on-chain analysis software has been explicitly recognized as meeting the Daubert admissibility standard, strengthening its evidentiary position in criminal prosecutions.

Founded in 2014, Chainalysis grew from early Bitcoin transaction tracking into a blockchain data platform covering global law enforcement, compliance, and market intelligence.

In 2025, its annual report revealed that on-chain illegal transaction volume reached $154 billion, up 162% year over year, and highlighted the rapid evolution of scams and sanctions evasion, establishing an important benchmark for on-chain risk.

In June 2026, the company proposed an "address clustering ontology" framework, decomposing "clusters" into wallet segments and functional roles, and describing transaction graphs and inference confidence via a two-tier structure, aiming to create a unified on-chain forensics standard for law enforcement and compliance.

In July 2026, Chainalysis filed suit against ICE's sole-source award of an approximately $94.6 million blockchain forensics contract to TRM Labs, challenging the procurement as arbitrary and unreasonable, and pushing for transparency in the blockchain analytics market.

Additionally, C1 Fund purchased an equity stake, reflecting capital markets' recognition of its long-term value.

In the past six months, Chainalysis launched blockchain intelligence agents (AI agents) that combine platform data with AI, enabling natural language queries, automated report generation, and multi-chain investigations for compliance and investigative use cases. It also initiated Operation Lighthouse, a joint effort with law enforcement and private sector partners to disrupt crypto-enabled CSAM networks, identifying thousands of suspicious addresses and accounts. In sanctions compliance, Chainalysis enhanced the distinction between pre- and post-designation exposure, helping institutions navigate diverse jurisdictional requirements. Additionally, it added support for the Stable blockchain, with automatic token coverage integrated into KYT, Reactor, and other products.

Future priorities include expanding AI agent capabilities to cover more complex investigative workflows while strengthening human-in-the-loop oversight; deepening public-private partnerships to combat illicit crypto activity; improving the granularity and real-time nature of sanctions screening; and broadening blockchain coverage to support emerging networks.

Chainalysis has seen notable team changes recently.

In May 2026, former CoinDesk journalist Danny Nelson joined as Head of Communications and Content. In July 2026, core members of Finisterra Labs, including co-founders Henrique Moniz (Software Engineer) and Jorge M. Soares (Engineering Manager), joined the company, which focuses on blockchain data infrastructure. These moves strengthen Chainalysis's capabilities in data analytics and content dissemination.
