BrightID

BrightID is a proof-of-personhood network that works without biometrics, aiming to prove that one real person maps to one account and thereby resist Sybil attacks. The mechanism is a social graph: users confirm each other's uniqueness in video connection parties or in-person meetings, connections accumulate into a graph, and algorithms analyze connectivity and clustering to judge uniqueness, with seed nodes able to report and flag suspicious accounts. An identity is just a key pair, names and photos are visible only to connections, no documents are uploaded and no fingerprints collected, applications query verification status via API, and zero-knowledge proofs can demonstrate verified personhood without exposing the graph structure.

Adoption concentrates where one-person-one-vote or anti-farming matters: donation matching weight in Gitcoin Grants, UBI pilot distribution, DAO governance votes and Sybil filtering. Compared with World ID's iris Orb and Human Passport's multi-signal scoring, BrightID offers the strongest privacy and the hardest cold start: new users in graph-sparse regions struggle to obtain initial connections, and coordinated infiltration cannot be ruled out by any single hardware-backed proof.
