About Avici
Avici is a crypto-native neobank offering self-custodial Visa cards and virtual bank accounts. Users deposit crypto (USDC, SOL, ETH) as collateral to spend in fiat, with card issuance and account opening requiring no credit check. The core value proposition is self-custody: users retain private keys, and Avici uses account abstraction to subsidize gas fees. It addresses pain points of traditional banking (high barriers, opaque fees) and crypto cards (forced custody, hidden costs). In the past six months (2026-03-04 to 2026-09-04), Avici launched its Earn lending product and expanded card tiers. However, in late August 2026, a smart contract vulnerability in its collateral pool was exploited, causing ~$1.1M in losses and a 49% token price drop. Avici confirmed the issue, upgraded the affected contracts, and committed to full user compensation. The incident highlighted risks in self-custody implementations where third-party contracts still hold funds.
