OpenAI has suspended accounts on a large scale, most without prior email notification

Nov 7, 2026 20:56:25

According to community feedback, on November 7, multiple users reported that their ChatGPT and OpenAI accounts were suddenly deactivated, with the status showing as account_deactivated. Users saw the message "You do not have an account because it has been deleted or deactivated" directly upon logging in, and most did not receive prior email notifications.

The related feedback involves free API accounts, team ride-sharing accounts, and the $200 monthly Pro accounts. Some users claimed that their Pro accounts, which had been used for five years, were deactivated without warning and without any emails. One developer stated that years of accumulated conversation records and personal memories were locked in the cloud and could not be retrieved.

On November 4, Claude Code and Cowork product lead Cat Wu announced their departure from Anthropic to join OpenAI.
