Chairman of the U.S. CFTC: Will Promote Voluntary Federal Registration Mechanism for Cryptocurrency Trading Platforms

Mike Selig stated that the cryptocurrency market should enjoy the same protections as the mature protective mechanisms adopted by the U.S. derivatives market for decades. While Congress has yet to take action, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is advancing a voluntary federal registration mechanism for cryptocurrency trading platforms, bringing its regulatory standards closer to the high-standard regulatory system of the U.S. financial markets.
