Dermot McGrath

Details

Dermot McGrath co-founded Sino Global Capital with Matthew Graham in 2015. He is the team’s Chief of Staff and participates heavily in deal sourcing, investment strategy and post-investment portfolio support. Dermot previously worked at HNA Technology, a major China-based Fortune 500 company, where he led project commercialization and fundraising at their New Technology Research Institute. Dermot received his bachelor degree from University College Dublin in 2013 and spent an exchange semester at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He also studied Mandarin at the Beijing Language and Culture University and can speak and read Mandarin Chinese fluently.

Ian Wittkopp

Ian Wittkopp started at Sino Global Capital in mid-2017 and has led the investment team in 50+ deals spanning token and equity in key verticals like DeFi, GameFi and crypto adjacent infrastructure. As COO, Ian overseas all team components daily across four continents as they produce best in class research, evaluate 100+ projects per week, and provide top-tier post investment support. Previously, Ian spent six years as an economist and budget analyst at the Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington, DC. At the BLS he worked on inflationary indexes in the Producer Price Index program before moving to the budget office and overseeing day-to-day execution of a USD $600M+ annual budget. He also led special projects including a ten-person team that worked with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to establish a joint survey on small business credit conditions. Ian also spent time as a product manager for an insurtech start-up, Bowtie Life Insurance. At Bowtie he led the launch of a digital microinsurance product that aimed to increase coverage among foreign workers from the Philippines and Indonesia who moved to Hong Kong for employment. Ian received his bachelor’s degree from the American University in Washington, D.C. and his MBA from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

In 2019, Mona Hamdy founded i3-a regenerative design venture studio dedicated to investing in and building the real-world communities of the Fifth Industrial Revolution. An advocate for the development of technology in the service of thriving, opportunity, and dignity for all peoples, Mona is the MENA region ambassador of the Global Blockchain Business Council, the Center for Democracy and Technology, and is an advisor to the Milken-Motsepe Prize for innovation in food and agriculture.

Patrick Loney

Patrick Loney came in-house at Sino Global Capital in August 2021 after serving as SGC’s outside legal counsel for five years. Patrick’s responsibilities include serving as head lawyer for the Fund, leading fundraising efforts and serving as the Fund LPs’ primary point of contact. In his seven years living in China, Patrick worked in the legal, financial advisory and trade industries. From 2014 to 2021, Patrick served primarily Asian legal clients on cross-border M&A, securities compliance and financings. From 2015 to 2018, Patrick was Associate Director and General Counsel of Paragon Partners Asia, a Shanghai-based merchant bank. At Paragon, Patrick sourced foreign investment opportunities for Chinese investors and assisted with legal issues related to cross-border investment transactions. During the outbreak of the global Covid-19 pandemic, Patrick formed Mintwood DML, a crossborder personal protective equipment (PPE) trading company. From March to December 2020, Mintwood DML sold $5 million+ in PPE to hospitals and governments located in the United States and India. Prior to moving to China in 2014, Patrick was a corporate attorney at the Seattle office of K&L Gates and served as a legislative aide to U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA). Patrick received his J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law and was a member of the executive board of the Washington Law Review. He is licensed to practice law in the state of Washington.

Haru Chen

Haru manages certain relationships for SGC in the APAC region and assists with strategic planning in local APAC markets for the Fund’s portfolio. Haru is a serial entrepreneur and investor from the Greater China region and has worked in the crypto and blockchain industry since 2015. She has invested in numerous, successful projects built on Ethereum.

Sally Wang

Sally Wang is the Head of Investments at Oak Grove Ventures and ex-VP of Portfolio Services at Sino Global Capital. She helped portfolios define their market approach by creating regional market playbooks, narrative design and localisation, community design and building support, whilst providing product launch and social media strategies. With 7+ years combined experience in communications and crypto growth strategies, she has guided multiple crypto brands like TokenInsight, Velo Labs, PAXOs in early days to grow their global market.
