zSTASH

zSTASH is a non-custodial desktop wallet built around Zcash. It is written in Rust on the Tauri framework, with Zcash protocol functionality supplied by librustzcash, and is developed from scratch rather than forked from an existing wallet; it supports hardware-wallet signing and built-in DEX swaps.

Its design rests on the argument that privacy comes from value at rest rather than value in motion. Zcash shielded transactions hide sender, recipient and amount behind zero-knowledge proofs, but the effective anonymity set depends on how long assets stay in the shielded pool and on the paths by which they enter and leave it. zSTASH therefore treats swapping as part of the privacy chain: assets rest in Zcash long enough to resist timing and correlation analysis, then are swapped with transport-layer anonymisation into bitcoin, ether or Solana assets that land on a fresh UTXO or account, so from a chain-analysis view the funds appear from nowhere. A new Ethereum account can thus be seeded with ETH and USDC, deposited into Aave, and later swapped back into Zcash without a traceable link to the user. A desktop build is chosen to reduce dependence on app stores that could remove mobile Zcash wallets. As of October 2026 the site offers no download and states that the first version will ship only after independent code and security-architecture audits, with no AI-generated code in security-critical components.
