Web3Auth is a pluggable authentication infrastructure for Web3. It provides non-custodial key management using Multi-Party Computation (MPC), allowing users to log into dApps with familiar methods like email, social accounts, or existing wallets, without needing to manage seed phrases.

Market pain points: Traditional Web3 wallets require users to handle private keys or seed phrases, creating high entry barriers and security risks. Users often lose assets due to mismanagement, while developers struggle with complex wallet integration.

Core value: Web3Auth solves these issues by splitting private keys into multiple shards via threshold cryptography, stored across user devices, Web3Auth network, and recovery factors. No single party holds the complete key. This enables a seamless, secure login experience while maintaining true decentralization and user ownership.

Recent development (2026-02-28 to 2026-08-29): Web3Auth rebranded to MetaMask Embedded Wallets, integrating into the MetaMask developer ecosystem. The new developer dashboard replaced the old Web3Auth dashboard with automatic migration for existing accounts. Smart account support was introduced, enabling account abstraction, gas sponsorship, batch transactions, and configurable permissions directly from the dashboard. Access control features were enhanced, allowing restrictions by email, domain, or wallet address. The infrastructure achieved SOC 2 Type II certification, complying with GDPR and CCPA, with 99.99% uptime SLA.
