About The Clearing Company

The Clearing Company is an on-chain prediction market platform that lets users trade contracts tied to real-world event outcomes, such as elections, economic data, sports, and cultural moments. Its core strength lies in a regulatory-first approach, combining blockchain transparency with a compliance-focused framework, which distinguishes it from less-regulated competitors.

The market pain point it addresses is the lack of transparent, accessible, and legally sound venues for event-based trading. Traditional prediction markets often suffer from opacity, regulatory uncertainty, and fragmented liquidity. The Clearing Company solves this by building a transparent, on-chain infrastructure that integrates with regulated venues, offering users a seamless and trustworthy trading experience.

In the past six months (2026-03-13 to 2026-09-13), following its acquisition by Coinbase (announced December 2025 and completed January 2026), The Clearing Company's technology and team have been integrated into Coinbase's prediction market offering. Coinbase users can now trade event contracts directly within the Coinbase app, with liquidity initially connected from Kalshi, a CFTC-regulated platform. The integration has expanded access to prediction markets for millions of users, positioning the platform as a key component of Coinbase's broader 'Everything Exchange' strategy. No significant negative developments were reported during this period.

Founded in 2025 by Toni Gemayel, former growth lead at Polymarket and Kalshi, The Clearing Company (TCC) raised a $15M seed round led by Union Square Ventures with Coinbase Ventures participating, positioning itself as a regulated on-chain prediction market blending decentralized openness with compliance-by-design.

In September 2025, TCC filed for a derivatives clearing organization license with the CFTC, a strategic move to bridge institutional-grade regulatory compliance with permissionless blockchain markets. This differentiated it from Polymarket's gray-area approach and Kalshi's centralized model.

In December 2025, Coinbase announced an agreement to acquire TCC, expected to close in January 2026. The acquisition brought the team into Coinbase's "Everything Exchange" strategy, integrating prediction markets directly into its regulated trading venue and marking a significant step toward mainstream adoption of event-based trading.
