About Smooth

Smooth is a browser automation middleware designed for AI agents. It replaces fragile DOM selectors with a visual-semantic anchoring system: after page load, a lightweight CV model extracts clickable elements and builds a topological map, so agents can refer to elements by natural descriptions like "the search button below the date picker" instead of brittle XPaths.

Its core value lies in converting natural language instructions into deterministic action sequences through a local rule engine, avoiding LLM token waste on HTML parsing. The adaptive execution layer then chooses the most reliable interaction method per element type, achieving near-100% success rates on routine tasks while keeping token consumption at O(1) regardless of page complexity.

This solves the pain point of traditional browser tools that force LLMs to process raw DOM, which is slow, token-expensive, and error-prone on modern single-page applications. Smooth's SDK can be injected into existing Playwright or Puppeteer instances, letting teams upgrade their automation stack without rewriting test suites.

In the past six months, the project has focused on expanding its visual anchoring coverage to shadow DOM and iframe-heavy pages, while improving the rule engine's handling of dynamic content. Public documentation and community examples show growing adoption in production environments, particularly for workflows involving multi-step form filling and cross-site data aggregation. No major security incidents or service disruptions have been reported during this period.
