About Sardine

Sardine is an anti-fraud and compliance platform that helps financial companies verify users, detect fraud, and meet regulatory requirements. Its core strength lies in combining device intelligence, behavioral biometrics (such as typing rhythm), and AI models trained on billions of transactions to identify fraud in real time. The platform covers the full user journey, from onboarding (KYC/KYB checks) to transaction monitoring and sanctions screening.

The main pain points Sardine addresses are rising fraud losses, high false-positive rates that burden manual review teams, and the complexity of compliance obligations. By using behavioral signals and device fingerprinting, it reduces reliance on static data like IDs, making fraud harder to bypass. Its AI agents automate repetitive review tasks, cutting human involvement in low-risk cases while keeping accuracy high. For example, in sanctions screening, the system achieved 99.9% agreement with human reviewers, allowing clients to reduce manual checks from 100% to 10% of alerts.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), Sardine focused on product enhancements: adding bulk resolution for screening queues, customizable dashboards, and multi-party screening for wire transfers (checking sender, receiver, and their banks in one API call). It also expanded its AI agent capabilities, including automated rule evaluation and anomaly detection. No major negative events were reported during this period.

In 2020, Sardine officially launched out of stealth as the first Fraud-prevention-as-a-Service (FaaS) platform, focusing on cryptocurrency and digital banking, offering capabilities such as device fingerprinting and behavioral biometrics.

In 2021, Sardine announced its Series B funding led by a16z Growth, which was used to expand its data network, enhance AI models, and drive innovation in real-time payment risk control.

Sardine's major advances in the past six months center on its agentic risk platform and regulatory credibility.

It achieved EMVCo 3DS 2.x certification for its Access Control Server, letting card issuers reference Sardine's certification in Visa, Mastercard, and Amex submissions and enter regulated markets faster.

Sardine was named a Leader in The Forrester Wave: Financial Crime Management Solutions, Q3 2026, earning the highest scores in rules-based risk scoring, transaction type support, queue/case management, and regulatory reporting.

Its AI agents saw rapid adoption: 300+ clients, a 2.5x increase since January. A six-month sanctions screening deployment with a bank reached 99.9% agreement between AI and human reviewers, cutting human oversight from 100% to 10%. The approach uses narrow, chained specialist agents rather than a single general-purpose model.

Sardine also launched multi-party AML screening for wire transactions, screening all four parties in a single API call.

Future roadmap: a payments foundation model trained on 1B+ transactions with ~40M parameters, which lifted card fraud detection AUC by over 45%. Next steps include building a "language of logins" from IP/device patterns, a "language of mouse movements" to detect remote access tools, and a "language of counterparties" for AML anomaly detection.
