About OlympusDAO

OlympusDAO is a decentralized reserve currency protocol built on Ethereum, issuing the OHM token. Its core business revolves around operating a treasury-backed monetary system, where each OHM is backed by a basket of on-chain assets such as DAI, FRAX, ETH, and LP tokens. The protocol pioneers Protocol Owned Liquidity (POL), allowing it to accumulate its own liquidity rather than renting it, and offers Cooler Loans—perpetual loans with a fixed 0.5% interest rate and no price-based liquidations, enabling borrowing up to 95% of OHM's liquid backing. The system also includes policy modules like the Yield Repurchase Facility (YRF) and Emissions Manager, which automate supply adjustments and buybacks, aiming to provide predictable monetary policy.

The core narrative is that OHM is "smart money"—a decentralized, policy-controlled currency that preserves purchasing power and maintains reliable liquidity, acting as a potential reserve asset for DeFi. The market pain point it addresses is the reliance on mercenary liquidity and unstable algorithmic stablecoins, which often fail under stress. Olympus instead builds a treasury-backed, rule-based system that can expand and contract with market conditions while protecting reserves.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), Olympus has continued its modular evolution rather than pursuing a single major upgrade. Notable developments include the ongoing institutionalization of Olympus V3 policies like Convertible Deposits, the operationalization of the Yield Repurchase Facility with governance authorization via OIP-164, and the maturation of Cooler Loans V2 as a treasury-backed credit primitive. The protocol also integrated Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) in June 2025 to enable decentralized cross-chain OHM transfers, initially to Solana, with potential expansion to other chains. In August 2025, Coinbase added support for OHM on its Base network DEX, bringing the protocol to a wider audience. However, the project has faced challenges: the Range Bound Stability (RBS) mechanism was disabled, replaced by YRF and Emissions Manager, indicating ongoing policy iteration. Additionally, a 2022 lawsuit highlighted that pseudonymity does not shield the DAO from legal accountability, and regulatory risks remain around token classification and DAO liability.

Updated: Sep 1, 2026

OlympusDAO launched in March 2021 as a decentralized reserve currency protocol. Its key long-term milestones include:

  1. Introducing Protocol Owned Liquidity (POL) via discount bonds, shifting from rented liquidity to treasury-owned LP tokens, which became a foundational DeFi 2.0 innovation.

  2. Launching Olympus Pro in September 2021, a 'Bonds-as-a-Service' platform allowing other DAOs to adopt POL, generating revenue and expanding the ecosystem.

  3. Upgrading to V2 with gOHM, enabling auto-staking, cross-chain governance, and reduced gas costs.

  4. Releasing V3 in August 2022, featuring Inverse Bonds and Range-Bound Stability (RBS) to absorb market volatility and maintain price stability without manual intervention.

These developments established Olympus as a pioneer in algorithmic reserve currencies and protocol-owned liquidity, influencing numerous forks and shaping DeFi's evolution.
