About Nametag
Nametag is a decentralized social identity platform that lets users showcase their digital assets and achievements across mainstream social media. Its core product is a browser extension for Chrome and Brave, enabling users to display NFT collections and verified credentials directly on platforms like Twitter, YouTube, and Discord. The platform treats NFTs as portable identity credentials, allowing individuals to own their digital presence rather than being locked into a single platform's ecosystem.
The main problem Nametag addresses is the fragmentation of online identity. Users currently maintain separate profiles across different platforms, with no unified way to present their digital reputation or collections. Nametag solves this by creating a portable social profile that travels with the user, making verified on-chain achievements visible anywhere.
Its competitive edge lies in the versatility of its credential system. Beyond simple NFT display, Nametag introduced GamerScore, an achievement system that spans social media, video games, apps, and blockchains, turning various online activities into verifiable credentials. This positions Nametag as an infrastructure layer for digital identity rather than just another profile tool.
In the past six months (2026-02-28 to 2026-08-29), Nametag has focused on expanding its achievement ecosystem and improving the browser extension's usability. The platform has been actively developing the GamerScore feature to cover more platforms and game titles, aiming to make cross-platform achievement tracking more comprehensive. No major negative incidents were reported during this period, though the project continues to face the general challenge of user adoption in the competitive decentralized identity space.
Key developments (2026-03-15 to 2026-09-15):
Granted two additional patents for human identity verification: one for securely associating a verified human with enterprise accounts (Account Binding), another for Selfie Chaining™ enabling rapid reverification with just a selfie. These directly counter AI-enhanced impersonation attacks.
Released an open-source reference implementation wiring Nametag identity verification into the A2H (Agent-to-Human) protocol as an MCP server, enabling AI agents (e.g., Claude Code, OpenClaw) to call nametag_authorize before sensitive actions. The enrolled owner approves via Selfie Reverification; the agent cannot self-authorize.
Named a Visionary in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Identity Verification, and listed as a Sample Vendor in the Gartner Hype Cycle for Digital Identity and a Representative Vendor in the Gartner CISO Edge report on employee onboarding.
Future focus: Extending Location Integrity™ (cryptographically attested GPS) into agent authorization flows, so high-risk actions require both the right person's face and verified physical presence in a trusted location. Continuing to build workforce identity verification as a foundational security layer alongside credentials, devices, and networks for passwordless and agentic AI adoption.
