About Morpheus
Morpheus is a peer-to-peer network for general-purpose AI. It connects users who need AI inference with compute providers who supply GPU capacity, all coordinated through smart contracts on Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Base. The core business is simple: users stake MOR tokens to access AI models, and providers earn MOR by serving inference requests. The network also supports smart agents—AI programs that can execute blockchain transactions on a user's behalf using natural language.
The key value proposition is decentralization. Unlike centralized AI services, Morpheus has no single operator controlling access, pricing, or data flow. All interactions happen directly between users and providers, with the blockchain only recording session open/close/settle events. This removes the risk of censorship, vendor lock-in, and opaque pricing. It also lowers the barrier for retail users to interact with Web3 by letting them use plain language instead of complex interfaces.
In the past six months (February to August 2026), Morpheus shipped several notable improvements. The network added full TEE attestation support for both Intel TDX and AMD SEV-SNP, meaning it can now cryptographically verify that AI inference actually runs inside a trusted hardware environment. It also launched a billing system on app.mor.org with Stripe and Coinbase Commerce integration, making it easier for non-crypto users to pay for inference. The marketplace API now supports env-based pricing and rate limits, and session enumeration was fixed so all active sessions are visible. Monthly token usage reportedly grew from 1 billion to 3 billion during this period, and a token burn mechanism was introduced to reduce supply.
Bullish:
- Tech: v7.2.0 adds AMD SEV-SNP TEE attestation, completing Phase 2 full-chain trusted verification for backend LLMs;
- Morpheus Skill v2 automates staking and session lifecycle management;
- Inference API billing goes live (Stripe/Coinbase), generating real revenue;
- THORChain plans to whitelist MOR in v3.20 for a liquidity pool;
- Partnership with FLock.io to advance decentralized AI training;
- Network processed 39B tokens; monthly usage grew to 16B.
Bearish:
- Staking lacks Gitcoin-style review and self-dealing detection, vulnerable to whale manipulation;
- THORChain pool not live yet; whitelist delayed.
The Morpheus network was founded by anonymous authors who identified themselves as Morpheus, Trinity, and Neo, as detailed in their September 2, 2023 whitepaper. No other co-founders or core executives are publicly confirmed. David A. Johnston is a code maintainer, not a co-founder.
