About Levana Protocol
Levana Protocol is a perpetual swaps platform in the Cosmos ecosystem. Its core business revolves around leveraged trading with a unique "well-fundedness" mechanism: every position is backed by collateral from a dedicated liquidity pool, ensuring positions can always be settled even under extreme market conditions.
Its main competitive edge is the elimination of bad debt risk. Traditional perp platforms often rely on liquidation engines and socialized losses, which can fail during sharp price moves. Levana instead locks collateral for each position upfront, making insolvency structurally impossible. This design also allows for capital-efficient trading, as users can manage multiple positions with unified collateral.
The market pain point it addresses is the fragility of DeFi derivatives: illiquidity, bad debt accumulation, and liquidation cascades. By guaranteeing settlement and removing the need for a risk fund, Levana offers a safer alternative for both traders and liquidity providers.
In the past six months (2026-03-01 to 2026-09-01), Levana announced it is winding down operations on Injective and Neutron. The team is transitioning the LVN token into the Rujira ecosystem, merging with its token. Users are advised to withdraw liquidity, as the unbonding period for xLPs has been waived. No new trading positions can be opened on Levana, and the platform is moving toward maintenance mode. This marks a strategic shift rather than a sudden failure, but it effectively ends Levana's independent operations.
Levana Protocol began as a perps platform on Terra's testnet in early 2022. After the Terra crash in May 2022, the team restructured, shrinking to about a dozen members, and pivoted to Juno testnet, launching Perps v2 and an options platform. In late 2023, Levana launched on Osmosis mainnet with an ATOM market, but soon suffered a multi-stage exploit due to oracle congestion, forcing a temporary halt. After review, the team decided to wind down Levana and transition to Rujira, built on THORChain, citing fundamental infrastructure weaknesses. Key long-term milestones: the Terra collapse-driven pivot, the Osmosis mainnet launch, the exploit-induced shutdown, and the eventual migration to Rujira.
