About Heroglyphs

Heroglyphs is a decentralized staking protocol that leverages validator graffiti fields to execute custom logic, such as reward distribution or game mechanics. It operates through two core modules: Identity, which links a wallet to a validator (similar to ENS), and Ticker, which connects smart contracts to specific graffiti strings (similar to a naming service for contracts).

Its core value proposition lies in lowering the barrier to entry for solo stakers. By integrating with Rocket Pool and EigenLayer, it allows participants with smaller capital to join, and its deployment on Gnosis Chain further reduces costs (requiring only 1 GNO per validator). The protocol also introduces a gamified element: validators can guess the exact block containing a specific graffiti string, earning extra rewards. This creates a unique narrative around "staking + gaming" that attracts both validators and speculators.

The main market pain point it addresses is the high financial and technical threshold of traditional staking (32 ETH minimum, hardware maintenance). Heroglyphs enables broader participation through liquid staking derivatives and simplified operations, while adding a layer of fun and engagement through its prediction-game design.

In the past six months (2026-03-02 to 2026-09-02), the protocol has been running successfully for several months, with over 550 blocks proposed by Heroglyphs validators and approaching 1,000 validator IDs. However, adoption remains limited: out of 23,000+ Genesis Keys minted, less than 5% of users are actively running validators. Many minted multiple keys but cannot use them due to lack of validator infrastructure. The team is updating Phase 3 to accommodate these users, focusing on scaling and onboarding more participants. Additionally, the protocol's contracts are still unaudited, which remains a significant risk factor.

Over the past six months, Heroglyphs has undergone a major Phase 3 overhaul focused on inclusivity and accessibility. The protocol paused and resumed operations, resetting the attestation medal system (now tracked off-chain) and restarting at Epoch 285,400. Key developments include:

  1. Lowered Staking Barriers: Introduced Gnosis Chain deployment, reducing validator costs from 32 ETH to just 1 GNO, with a new 0.1 GNO minting fee for the Gnosis Validator ID. This aligns with the goal of enabling home-staking.

  2. Tokenomics Redesign: Emissions shifted to a per-execution model with a 98% taper after 1 million tokens. New mechanics include $ATT (tradable attestation tokens) replacing soulbound badges, and $BADGES (SBTs) redeemable for Genesis Tokens after ~15 days of consistent validating.

  3. HeroPool Launch: A new smoothing pool allowing solo stakers to direct rewards into an investment DAO for diversified DeFi exposure (Aave, Pendle, etc.). Contracts are ready but unaudited.

  4. Future Roadmap: Phase 3 focuses on onboarding non-validator NFT holders, with a claim system for Genesis Key holders (including those on Arbitrum via a 3-week cliff/6-week vesting schedule). The team is also developing game mechanics around validator graffiti and exploring further multi-chain expansion.
