Details

Herodotus is a blockchain storage proof protocol that acts as a middleware layer, enabling smart contracts to synchronously access and verify cross-chain historical data. It leverages Ethereum's Merkle-Patricia Trie and block header MMRs (Merkle Mountain Ranges) to prove the existence and value of account states or storage slots at specific blocks, thereby securely reading L1 historical states on L2. Its core product, the Data Processor (HDP), allows developers to write custom logic in Cairo, perform computations off-chain over proven data, and generate validity proofs that are verified on-chain. This addresses the issues of untrusted indexers and the high cost of full node verification, providing trustless historical data access and computation for cross-domain DeFi, governance, and on-chain gaming scenarios.
