About Gravita Protocol
Gravita Protocol is a decentralized borrowing protocol built on Ethereum, focused on Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs) like wstETH and rETH. Its core business allows users to deposit LSTs as collateral and mint GRAI, a USD-pegged stablecoin, with zero interest. Instead of variable interest, users pay a one-time fee that is partially refunded if the loan is repaid within 182 days, encouraging short-term borrowing. The protocol also features a redemption mechanism that helps maintain GRAI's peg by allowing arbitrageurs to redeem GRAI for underlying collateral.
Its main competitive edge is the combination of zero-interest loans and the ability to earn staking yields on collateral simultaneously. This creates a "money lego" effect where borrowers can leverage their staked assets without losing yield, a significant advantage over traditional lending protocols that charge high variable rates. The protocol also emphasizes capital efficiency with high LTV ratios (up to 90% for WETH) and a unique Recovery Mode that incentivizes system health.
The market pain point Gravita addresses is the high and unpredictable borrowing costs in DeFi. Traditional platforms like Aave or Compound charge floating rates that can spike during market stress. Gravita's zero-interest model provides cost certainty, while the redemption mechanism and stability pool offer a robust peg maintenance system. For LST holders, it solves the problem of idle assets by allowing them to borrow against their staked positions without selling.
In the past six months (March to September 2026), Gravita has focused on expanding its LST support and improving the redemption mechanism. The protocol has seen steady growth in total value locked, particularly in wstETH and rETH markets. However, the team has acknowledged challenges with GRAI's peg stability during volatile market conditions, and the redemption mechanism has occasionally created arbitrage pressure on the token. No major security incidents were reported, but the protocol's dependence on LST price oracles remains a point of ongoing development.
