About Cream Finance

Cream Finance is a decentralized lending protocol that allows users to supply and borrow crypto assets across multiple blockchains, including Ethereum, BSC, Polygon, and Arbitrum. Its core products include lending pools, flash loans, and Cream Swap (an AMM). The main value proposition is cross-chain lending, which solves the problem of fragmented liquidity and low asset utilization across chains. It also introduced Iron Bank, a service for institutional-grade, collateral-free lending between whitelisted protocols.

The market pain point it addresses is the inefficiency in traditional DeFi lending: over-collateralization and isolated liquidity. Cream enables assets to move freely across chains, improving capital efficiency. However, the project suffered a major security breach in October 2021, losing about $130 million in a flash loan attack, which raised concerns about its risk management.

Regarding development in the past six months (2026-03-01 to 2026-09-01), there is no reliable public information available. The protocol appears to have limited activity, and its token (CREAM) has very low trading volume, suggesting reduced usage. No significant updates or new features were confirmed during this period.

Updated: Sep 1, 2026

Cream Finance launched on Ethereum in August 2020 as a Compound fork, introducing lending, borrowing, and later an AMM (Cream Swap). In November 2020, it merged with Yearn.Finance, becoming part of the YFI ecosystem, which was a significant strategic alignment. However, the protocol suffered multiple flash loan attacks: February 2021 ($37.5M loss), August 2021 ($18.8M), and October 2021 (~$130M), severely impacting its security reputation and temporarily pausing its Ethereum v1 lending market. In August 2022, a liquidity crisis on BSC occurred due to the termination of the Boosted Savings program (BNB validator rewards), causing near-total depletion of BSC liquidity. Despite these setbacks, Cream introduced Iron Bank, a permissionless lending market for whitelisted protocols, aiming to improve capital efficiency. The project also expanded across multiple chains (BSC, Fantom, Polygon, Arbitrum) and transitioned to DAO governance. These events highlight both its innovative contributions and persistent security challenges.
