About Acre

Acre is a Bitcoin liquidity layer that allows users to deposit native BTC and earn yield through decentralized finance. Its core flow involves bridging deposited Bitcoin into tBTC, a permissionless wrapped-bitcoin token managed by the Threshold Network DAO, before allocating it to vaults that provide economic security to Bitcoin L2s, restaking protocols, lending markets, and insurance protocols across the EVM ecosystem. These rewards auto-compound into tBTC and are redeemable back to mainnet Bitcoin.

The key market pain point Acre addresses is the low capital efficiency of idle Bitcoin. Bitcoin holders previously had few safe, non-custodial options to generate yield. Acre solves this by leveraging tBTC's decentralized bridge system, which requires a threshold majority signature from 100 distributed node operators for minting and redemption, avoiding the counterparty risk of centralized custodians. The deposit token acreBTC, an ERC-4626 vault token, is non-rebasing: rewards accrue in the redemption value rather than the token balance, and its movement outside the dApp is restricted until a DAO vote decides otherwise.

Regarding recent developments, in June 2026, volatility strategy execution layer Hypersurface acquired Acre to combine its Bitcoin deposit and distribution technology with an on-chain volatility execution engine. This led to the launch of HSBPI, an on-chain managed Bitcoin strategy vault for volatility trading, managed by Monarq Asset Management. As part of the transition, existing Acre users could migrate deposits to HSBPI while retaining self-custody of their Bitcoin.

Key progress (Mar–Sep 2026):

  1. Acquisition by Hypersurface (June 2026): Hypersurface, an on-chain volatility execution layer, acquired Acre to launch the first on-chain Bitcoin Premium Income Vault (HSBPI). The vault combines Acre's BTC deposit/infrastructure with Hypersurface's HyperEVM-based options trading engine, enabling direct BTC deposits for professionally managed premium-income strategies. Managed by Monarq Asset Management, HSBPI is fully on-chain and BTC-denominated, differentiating it from TradFi products like MSTY or BITA.

  2. Acre depositors will be migrated to HSBPI while retaining self-custody, with detailed migration timelines to follow.

  3. Acre's Deployment Policy (DAO-governed) was established, setting risk limits (max 50% per protocol, 25% per product, 2% liquid reserve), diversification standards, and 90-day rebalancing reviews, all executed via DAO-approved smart contracts.

Future focus & roadmap:

  • Integration with Hypersurface to accelerate Bitcoin-native yield and vault products, expanding on-chain volatility trading access.
  • Continue building the 'Bitcoin-in, Bitcoin-out' (BIBO) experience and the stBTC liquid staking token, with DAO governance (ACRE token) managing deployment health.
  • Prioritize partnerships with Bitcoin L2s to aggregate liquidity and allocate capital, aiming to become the liquidity layer for BitcoinFi.
