About ZenLedger

ZenLedger is a US-focused crypto tax software, not a same-name blockchain project. Its business includes importing transactions via API, CSV, or public-chain addresses; aggregating data from exchanges, wallets, DeFi, and NFTs; generating cost basis, capital gains (Form 8949/Schedule D), staking/mining income reports, and FBAR filings; and supporting TurboTax import and CPA collaboration workflows. Its core strength is a visible audit trail: the Grand Unified Accounting (GUA) ledger lists every transaction's date, coin, amount, cost-basis method, and resulting tax figure for users or accountants to verify. The software has been used by the IRS, which is a credibility signal but not an endorsement. It addresses the pain points of fragmented multi-platform transactions, transfers mistakenly treated as taxable events, difficult DeFi/NFT pricing, and error-prone manual organization. For the past six months (2026-03-05 to 2026-09-05), no specific updates or major events were found. Public reviews indicate its strength remains complex tax scenarios, while weaknesses include higher pricing, manual work for cutting-edge DeFi protocols, and output accuracy depending on input quality. Negative information within two years includes higher costs at very high transaction volumes; requiring full transaction history to be shared with a third party, creating privacy disclosure; and shifting US tax rules (1099-DA, wash-sale) that may change tool behavior by filing season.

Founded in 2017 by Pat Larsen and Bryan Starbuck, ZenLedger focuses on cryptocurrency tax and accounting. In December 2019, it completed a $3.4M seed round led by Vestigo Ventures, surpassing $1B in crypto transactions processed with over 500% YoY growth. In August 2021, it raised a $6M Series A led by Bloccelerate VC, with participation from Mark Cuban's Radical Ventures, bringing total funding to $11.5M and processing over $5B in transactions. In May 2022, it closed a $15M Series B led by ParaFi Capital, with cumulative funding of approximately $27M and 50,000+ users. In February 2023, it launched international support covering nearly 150 currencies and 500+ exchanges/wallets, including DeFi, NFTs, and staking. In 2024, it achieved SOC 2 Type 2 compliance, elevating data security standards. These milestones established its leadership in the crypto tax space.
