About Violet

Violet is a compliance and identity infrastructure built for decentralized finance (DeFi). Its core business is providing a standardized way to issue compliance credentials (in the form of non-transferable tokens, or NTTs) and map smart-contract access controls on Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains. Users complete a one-time KYC/KYB verification through partners like Persona or SumSub, after which they receive a VioletID. When interacting with a participating protocol, Violet generates an Ethereum Access Token (EAT) that is embedded in the transaction, allowing the protocol to verify the user's compliance status without exposing personal data. The protocol simply calls Violet's verification smart contract to confirm the wallet has passed the required checks.

The core competitive narrative is "privacy-preserving compliance." Violet acts as a bridge between regulatory requirements and the permissionless nature of DeFi. It allows protocols to restrict access to compliant users (e.g., for sanctions screening or accredited investor checks) while users retain control over their personal information — only a binary "pass/fail" signal is shared on-chain.

The market pain point is that DeFi protocols face increasing regulatory pressure to implement AML/KYC measures, but traditional identity solutions are either centralized (creating honeypots of personal data) or incompatible with blockchain's transparency. Violet solves this by separating identity verification from on-chain activity, enabling compliant participation without sacrificing user privacy.

In the past six months (February to August 2026), Violet has focused on expanding its compliance coverage and improving the developer experience. Notably, it launched VioletID 2.0, which introduced programmable compliance policies — allowing protocols to define custom rules (e.g., jurisdiction-specific restrictions or risk-score thresholds) that are enforced at the smart-contract level. It also integrated with World ID to add a proof-of-humanity layer, strengthening Sybil resistance. On the ecosystem front, Mauve (a non-custodial exchange built on Violet) has seen increased adoption, and several new DeFi protocols have integrated Violet's SDK for compliance-gated access. No major negative events were reported during this period.
