About Utexo

Utexo is a Bitcoin-native payment platform that enables USDT and other stablecoins to be issued, transferred, and settled directly on Bitcoin's infrastructure, combining the Lightning Network for fast payments with the RGB protocol for asset management.

Its core value proposition is solving the fragmentation problem of stablecoin payments. Existing stablecoin systems rely on public chains like Ethereum or Tron, which suffer from unpredictable gas fees, transparent transaction histories that expose business-sensitive data, and settlement layers that lack Bitcoin's finality. Utexo addresses these issues by offering a deterministic fee structure, off-chain execution with on-chain anchoring for privacy, and a unified API that abstracts away the complexity of routing, liquidity management, and asset validation.

The platform is built on a layered architecture: Bitcoin serves as the settlement anchor, Lightning Network handles high-throughput payments with near-instant finality, RGB manages asset ownership through client-side validation, and Utexo's execution layer coordinates routing and liquidity. This design allows businesses to integrate stablecoin payments without exposing sensitive financial data on a public ledger.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), Utexo has focused on interoperability and distribution. It is integrating with major exchanges outside Europe and wallet providers, with most large-scale integrations expected to go live between August and December 2026. The company has also demonstrated Bitcoin staking via Lightning Network, generating 4-6% native Bitcoin yields. Additionally, Utexo is working with compliance firms like Crystal Intelligence to address regulatory concerns around privacy features, aiming to make its solution acceptable to regulated payment providers and exchanges.

Utexo was founded in the Bitcoin ecosystem, focusing on Bitcoin-native payments and stablecoin infrastructure built on the RGB protocol and Lightning Network.

Key milestones:

  1. Completed a $7.5 million seed round led by Tether, with participation from Franklin Templeton, Maven 11, and others, marking a strategic bet by traditional finance and stablecoin giants on Bitcoin's programmability layer.
  2. Driving native USDT issuance on Bitcoin via the RGB protocol, using client-side validation and off-chain settlement to enable private, low-cost stablecoin transfers, widely seen as core infrastructure for USDT's return to Bitcoin.
  3. Integrated with Solv Protocol to launch a native Bitcoin yield solution based on RGB and Lightning Network, connecting yield-bearing assets with payment networks.

Together, these milestones establish Utexo as a key infrastructure provider in the Bitcoin stablecoin track.

Over the past six months, Utexo has made significant strides in bringing USDT back to Bitcoin natively. Partnering with Tether, Utexo deployed the RGB protocol v0.11.1 to issue Bitcoin-native USDT, enabling instant, private settlements via Lightning Network while anchoring security to Bitcoin's UTXO model. This marks the first native USDT issuance on Bitcoin since its Omni days. Utexo also integrated with x402 to support USDT payments for agent-to-agent transactions, achieving settlement speeds as fast as 50 milliseconds. The company launched SDKs for Node.js, browser JS/TS, React Native, and Flutter, plus a reference wallet built on Tether's WDK. Looking ahead, Utexo's roadmap focuses on expanding interoperability across more chains, completing security audits for its RGB Lightning Node and TEE-based bridge, and rolling out the bridge to production. The team emphasized that the full go-to-market for USDT on Bitcoin is tied to Tether's launch timing, expected between summer and September 2026, with most exchange integrations launching alongside Lightning support.
