About Ubyx
Ubyx is a clearing and settlement network built for stablecoins and tokenized money. Its core business is simple: it lets banks, fintechs, and payment service providers accept and redeem stablecoins from many different issuers through a single connection, instead of building separate integrations with each issuer.
The main problem Ubyx solves is fragmentation. Today, if a payment company wants to let its customers deposit a stablecoin like USDC or USDT, it must negotiate a direct relationship with each issuer, handle different technical standards, and manage credit risk for every one of them. This is costly and slow, and it limits stablecoin adoption. Ubyx removes that friction by acting as a central clearing house: the receiving institution submits a redemption request, Ubyx routes it to the right issuer, verifies the transaction, and ensures the receiving institution gets paid in full, at par value, in real time.
Its competitive edge lies in network effects and neutrality. By connecting many issuers on one side and many receivers on the other, Ubyx makes stablecoins as easy to accept as traditional bank transfers. It also emphasizes that it is not a broker or an exchange—it does not buy or sell stablecoins, it only clears and settles them, which reduces conflicts of interest and makes it attractive to regulated institutions.
In the past six months (March to September 2026), Ubyx has been expanding its network. It has onboarded more stablecoin issuers and receiving institutions, and has been working on supporting additional blockchains beyond its initial focus. It also launched a small-scale lending facility to provide short-term liquidity support to issuers, and has been developing data standards to make integration easier for new participants.
Key developments (2026-03-01 to 2026-09-01):
BitGo strategic investment and settlement agent appointment (March 2026): BitGo Ecosystem Holdings invested in Ubyx, with BitGo Bank & Trust (OCC-regulated) joining as settlement agent, providing institutional-grade custody and settlement services.
Polygon partnership: Polygon selected as a settlement chain, chosen for its throughput supporting high-frequency, high-volume payment flows at low cost.
Future focus and roadmap:
Operating model: Ubyx operates a "collection model" (not sale model), enabling par-value redemption of tokenized deposits and regulated stablecoins through regulated channels, analogous to cheque clearing.
Public blockchain stance: Ubyx advocates for banks to participate as validators on public blockchains, arguing this strengthens rather than weakens the banking system.
Multi-chain wallet vision: Founder Tony McLaughlin predicts that within 5-10 years, every bank and fintech will offer wallets connected to multiple chains, with Ubyx building the acceptance layer to make tokenized money spendable everywhere.
