About Tydro

Tydro is a decentralized, non-custodial lending protocol deployed on Ink, Kraken's Layer 2 network, and operates as a whitelabel deployment of Aave v3. Its core business allows users to supply assets to earn interest or borrow against collateral, with all transactions executed via smart contracts and user funds remaining self-custodied.

Its primary competitive advantage lies in inheriting Aave v3's battle-tested codebase and risk management framework, combined with Ink's ecosystem support. The protocol employs a dual-oracle system with Chainlink as a push-based price feed, alongside role-based safeguards (PoolAdmin and EmergencyAdmin) that can pause entire pools or specific reserves during emergencies, without the ability to touch individual positions.

Tydro addresses the market pain point of centralized lending's trust requirements and opaque risk management, offering a fully permissionless and transparent alternative. Users maintain complete control of assets, and liquidation logic is governed by a transparent health factor system.

Over the past six months (March to September 2026), Tydro experienced a significant security incident. On May 4, risk manager Chaos Labs detected an attack on its oracle provider with patterns resembling a state-sponsored actor, prompting an immediate suspension of all markets. After approximately 48 hours, key rotation was completed, but Tydro chose to remain paused until a second push oracle (Chainlink) was fully integrated. The migration triggered a 48-hour timelock plus a four-hour grace period allowing borrowers with health factors below 1 to repay or add collateral without liquidation. No abnormal prices reached the markets and user positions were unaffected. As of the reporting period, Tydro's total value locked stands at approximately $85 million, ranking 29th among lending protocols tracked by DefiLlama, with active loans around $48 million.

Launch and growth: In October 2025, Tydro launched as a white-label deployment of Aave v3 on Kraken's Ink Layer 2, quickly becoming the largest lending protocol on Ink, with market size surpassing $700 million and driving nearly all of Ink's recent growth.

Security incident and multi-oracle migration: On May 4, 2026, risk manager Chaos Labs notified Tydro that its oracle provider had been attacked with patterns similar to a nation-state attacker, and advised halting markets. Tydro paused all markets, stating no bad prices were pushed and no user positions were affected. About 48 hours later compromised keys were rotated and resumption was technically possible, but Tydro kept markets paused until Chainlink and RedStone second push oracles were ready. After migration, a 48-hour timelock was triggered, plus a four-hour grace period allowing borrowers with health factors below 1 to repay or top up collateral to avoid liquidation. Positions were assessed before restart. (, )

Long-term significance: The incident pushed Tydro to adopt multi-oracle redundancy and stricter oracle hardening, with a full post-mortem planned, providing an important reference for DeFi lending protocols facing high-level oracle attacks.

Over the past six months, Tydro has made significant progress. In March 2026, lending incentives went live, allowing borrowers to earn points to offset fees. In May, following a suspected nation-state attack on an oracle provider flagged by Chaos Labs, Tydro paused all markets as a precaution, later confirming no user positions were affected. By August, Tydro launched v2 with fixed borrowing rates, Kraken custody support, and isolated/term markets, initially featuring kBTC and avkBTC. Additionally, Tydro integrated Hypernative's Transaction Guard to block malicious transactions on Safe multisigs before execution, enhancing security across its operations. Looking ahead, Tydro plans to resume markets after completing a migration to Chainlink price feeds, with a 48-hour timelock and a four-hour grace period for borrowers with health factors below 1, followed by a full post-mortem on oracle hardening.
