About TaxBit

TaxBit is a tax and accounting solution provider focused on digital assets and cryptocurrency. Its platform automates the entire tax reporting workflow, including calculating capital gains (IRS Form 8949/1099-B), collecting tax documents (W-9, W-8BEN, W-8BEN-E, self-certification), validating US TINs, and handling regulatory filings such as DAC7 for digital platform sellers and CARF/DAC8 for crypto-asset reporting.

The core problem TaxBit solves is the manual, error-prone process of managing tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Financial institutions, marketplaces, and crypto exchanges often struggle with fragmented data, complex rules, and tight deadlines. TaxBit addresses this by ingesting transaction data automatically, applying expert-built calculation logic, and generating ready-to-file forms, reducing operational burden and compliance risk.

Its competitive edge lies in its API-first, enterprise-grade architecture, which integrates seamlessly with existing systems. The platform is trusted by large financial institutions and has formed alliances with major accounting firms like Ernst & Young to support client digital asset tax needs.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), TaxBit has expanded its global footprint, opening offices in Singapore and Madrid to better serve APAC and EMEA markets. The company launched a CARF Regulatory Tracker, providing a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction view of CARF and CRS 2.0 implementation status, and introduced B-Notice Management, which automates the handling of CP2100 files and first/second notice classification. These developments reflect TaxBit's focus on helping enterprises prepare for new global reporting regimes like CARF, DAC8, and updated CRS rules.

Founded in 2017 by CPA Austin Woodward and his brother Justin, TaxBit launched its consumer product in January 2019, earning the nickname "TurboTax for crypto." In January 2020, the company raised a $5 million seed round backed by Winklevoss Capital and others, validating market demand. A pivotal moment came in August 2021 when TaxBit raised $130 million in Series B at a $1.33 billion valuation, just five months after its $100 million Series A, achieving unicorn status. This rapid ascent was driven by its IRS deployment and surging form issuance—from 2 million forms in 2020 to over 50 million in 2021. In October 2022, TaxBit launched Cost Basis Interchange (CBI), the industry's first automated solution for cost-basis sharing between digital asset brokers, addressing compliance requirements under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). This marked a shift from individual tax tools to enterprise-grade infrastructure, cementing TaxBit's role as a critical compliance layer for the tokenized economy.

TaxBit’s most significant progress in the past half year was the official launch of Asia Pacific operations, anchored in Singapore, formalizing work with clients across the region and providing compliance reporting infrastructure for crypto-asset service providers, payments and e-money institutions . Its core focus is automating the full CARF and CRS 2.0 lifecycle: collection and reasonableness validation of self-certifications, data ingestion and harmonization, user eligibility determination, change-in-circumstance monitoring/re-certification, and report generation across 70+ jurisdictions. TaxBit also partnered with Airwallex to embed global tax compliance and information reporting into payment workflows for marketplaces . Official future priorities are expanding across APAC, making regulatory reporting a "byproduct of doing business," and strengthening enterprise and government digital-asset information reporting capabilities to meet cross-border filing and audit-trail requirements under CARF/CRS 2.0.
