Details

Steward is an open-source, self-hostable key management and policy enforcement layer for AI agents. It securely stores agents' wallet private keys and API credentials, and uses a default-deny policy engine to govern EVM transaction signing and external API access. Developers use its SDK to create agent wallets and configure policies such as spending limits, address whitelists, and auto-approval thresholds. Agent-initiated transactions or API calls are first evaluated against policies; operations exceeding limits enter a human approval queue and are released only after an admin approves. Its technical highlights include an HMAC-based audit chain, Ed25519-signed evidence bundles, and support for local encryption, AWS KMS, or PKCS#11 custody.
