About Socket
Socket is a chain abstraction protocol that unifies cross-chain operations through a single API. Its core business is a routing layer that aggregates multiple bridges and DEXs, allowing developers to read state and send transactions across 140+ chains without integrating each one individually. The Liquidity Layer evaluates routes in real-time based on cost, speed, and security, returning the best execution path for any token transfer, swap, or message.
The market pain point Socket addresses is blockchain fragmentation: developers previously had to integrate each bridge separately, dealing with different ABIs, liquidity pools, and failure modes. Socket replaces this with one integration point, while its smart contracts hold no funds directly, inheriting security from underlying protocols.
In the past six months (2026-02-28 to 2026-08-31), Socket has maintained 99.99% uptime with a median settlement time under 4 seconds, processing $320M weekly volume. The protocol expanded to 140+ chains and 50+ payment methods, with 150+ customers relying on its SLA-backed infrastructure. Documentation shows continued refinement of the API and SDK, while the Bungee consumer interface remains the primary retail access point. No major negative incidents were reported in this period, though the protocol's dependence on third-party bridge security remains a structural consideration.
Socket (formerly Socket Protocol) was founded in 2021 as a cross-chain interoperability protocol, introducing a two-layer architecture (SocketLL for asset transfer and SocketDL for data transfer). In 2022, it raised $5M in a seed round led by Coinbase Ventures and Framework Ventures, followed by a $5M strategic round in 2023, totaling $12M in disclosed funding. By early 2024, the protocol had processed over $3.5B in volume across 2.5M+ transactions, serving major DeFi and wallet projects. In January 2024, Socket suffered a $3.3M exploit due to a vulnerability in a newly deployed route contract, affecting 232 users. The team quickly disabled the affected route, recovered $2.2M in ETH, and fully compensated all victims, demonstrating resilience and commitment to user protection. In 2025, Socket exposed 77 malicious Firefox wallet extensions, with 40 confirmed to steal seed phrases, contributing to ecosystem security. These milestones highlight Socket's evolution from a technical protocol to a mature cross-chain infrastructure with a strong security track record.
