About Rooch Network
Rooch Network is a Bitcoin-native application layer built on the MoveVM. Its core business is providing a verifiable execution environment (VApp container) where developers can build applications that directly read Bitcoin blocks and transactions, and manage Bitcoin assets (including Ordinals and BRC20) through smart contracts. The network uses a distributed state tree protocol to connect independent application nodes, and an asset leap protocol (based on the Bitseed standard) to enable assets to move between Bitcoin L1 and L2 without a centralized bridge.
Its core narrative is "Bitcoin as the settlement layer, Rooch as the application layer." Unlike general-purpose L2s, Rooch focuses on verifiable off-chain computation: application state roots are anchored to Bitcoin, and clients can verify state transitions locally. This addresses the market pain point that Bitcoin lacks programmability, while existing sidechains or bridges introduce custodial risks. Rooch's asset leap protocol avoids asset aggregation in bridges, reducing centralized risk and enabling "cash-like" asset transfers between networks.
In the past six months (2026-02-28 to 2026-08-29), Rooch has been preparing the launch of a new stable version of its VApp container and a pioneer network. On this network, it plans to test cross-layer asset protocols: issuing new off-chain assets via self-locked derivative assets, and migrating Bitseed-based NFTs and FTs between L1 and L2. It also encourages developers to build Bitcoin-asset-based games. The team is working on integrating a P2P network and data availability layer, with the goal of moving toward decentralized node operation. However, some features, such as Move and Bitcoin Script mixed programming, are still under development, and the asset leap protocol and Bitcoin-based security solutions are not yet fully implemented in production.
Key progress in the past six months:
- Launched RoochBTC pre-mainnet, a Bitcoin L2 with full UTXO state indexing and a light client, enabling Ordinals/BRC20 assets in Move contracts.
- Advanced Babylon integration, using BTC staking to secure L2 finality and parsing OP_RETURN data for staking info.
- Partnered with Nubit to integrate its DA layer and co-develop a Bitcoin-native CSV asset standard.
- Started the third bug bounty program with a $200,000 pool to secure the pre-mainnet.
Future focus and roadmap:
- Experiment with cross-layer asset protocols on pre-mainnet, including self-custody derivatives and Bitseed-based asset migration.
- Foster game and application ecosystems, distributing mainnet token options through usage.
- Connect P2P network, integrate DA, decentralize nodes, and upgrade to mainnet.
- Promote adoption of the CSV asset standard with Nubit.
