About Ripe
Ripe is a DeFi borrowing protocol that lets users deposit tokenized stocks (e.g., SpaceX, Nvidia, Tesla) and other assets as collateral to mint GREEN, a USD stablecoin. Unlike traditional lending, there is no lender; loans are minted against collateral and burned on repayment. Its core advantage is portfolio-level borrowing: one loan can be backed by multiple asset types at a blended rate, avoiding the need to open separate vaults or sell holdings. Collateral keeps earning yield (e.g., staked ETH) while backing the loan. Liquidations are partial, taking only what is needed to restore health, with multi-oracle pricing and a redemption window.
The main pain point it addresses is fragmentation and forced selling in current DeFi lending. Ripe aggregates diverse assets into a single position, reducing liquidation risk and management overhead, while allowing users to retain upside exposure.
Recent development (based on project communications around mid-2026): soft launch completed, whitelist removed, and conservative caps remain as stress tests continue. Reported metrics include roughly $2.8M TVL, 170k GREEN supply with a strong peg, about 3k GREEN in loans (debt limit reached), sGREEN APY of 161%, and GREEN LP APY of 236%. The bonding mechanism is gaining momentum, and expansion of collateral types is planned.
Ripe began as a DeFi lending concept in 2022, initially named jUSD, before pivoting to the GREEN stablecoin and the Ripe brand in 2023. The protocol’s core innovation is multi-asset collateralized borrowing, allowing users to secure a single loan backed by diverse assets, with risk parameters set by governance. A key milestone was the tokenomics overhaul in 2025: a 1 billion RIPE supply cap, with 25% allocated to community incentives (unlocking from day one) and team/investor vesting extended by an additional year on top of their schedules, all enforced onchain. The seed round in February 2025 raised $550K at $0.02 per RIPE, implying a $20M fully diluted valuation, after 2+ years of self-funded development. The protocol launched on Base L2 in mid-2025, transitioning from testnet to mainnet, with the team having invested $1.87M of their own funds. These events—brand evolution, tokenomics redesign, seed funding, and mainnet launch—represent the foundational milestones that shaped Ripe’s long-term trajectory, emphasizing community-first distribution and sustainable growth.
Mick Hagen is the founder of Ripe Protocol. Previously, he founded Zinch (an ed-tech platform acquired by Chegg in 2011) and was involved in early crypto experiments via a Slack community. He self-funded the project's early development. No other co-founders or core executives are publicly confirmed on official channels.
